Uncharted Territory- A Father's Journey is about an individual's journey as a stay-at-home dad and all things surrounding parenthood.
The good, bad and the ugly. So many times we hear the great stories and amazing feelings people have about parenting, but there is another side to parenting that isn’t discussed as often, for fear of being alienated or shamed. There are some who never wanted to be a parent and those that once they became a parent feared they may have made a mistake. Parenting isn’t for everyone and the emotions surrounding parenting can vary drastically.
Acknowledging the gambit of emotions doesn’t make you a bad or irresponsible parent, it just makes you human. So I hope that this book will serve as a safe space for all dialogue surrounding parenthood. Whether you love being a parent or whether you question your decision, the conversation should be open, honest and safe.
This book comes straight from the heart of R. Manasseh T. It is a reflection of his journey—the lessons he has learned, the challenges he has faced, and the experiences that shaped him into the person he is today. ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Born on November 7, 1975, in Youngstown, Ohio, to Robert and Gena Thornton, Robert M. Thornton graduated from East High School in 1994 before attending Wilberforce University. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with a minor in Criminal Justice in 1998. Shortly after graduation, he began his professional journey as a prevention specialist with an Alcohol and Drug Prevention agency.
He later transitioned to Children Services, where he served as an Adoption Assessor and Foster Care Case Manager. Following his move to Detroit, Michigan, Robert continued his work with Children Services before stepping into the role of Community Program Manager with the Michigan Prisoner Re-Entry Initiative (MPRI). During this time, he also partnered with a prevention agency to facilitate court-ordered Anger Management and Parenting classes.
For the past 20 years, Robert has shared life with his brilliant, talented, and loving wife, Dr. Imani Thornton. Together, they are proud parents to two extraordinary sons, Elijah Manasseh and Caleb Manasseh, whose intelligence, kindness, and gifts continue to inspire them daily.
